IN MY PREVIOUS POST MY GOLD STRIP MAROON CLOWN WAS HANGING OUT IN MY NEW BUBBLE ANEMONE FOR 4 DAYS STAIGHT. I WAS THINKING COOL HE REALLY ENJOYS IT. WHEN HE CAME OUT AFTER 4 DAYS HE LOOKED RAGGED. WHEN I GOT HOME FORM WORK LAST NIGHT THE CLOWN HAD WHAT APPEARED TO BE REAL LIGHT SPLOTCHES ON HIS BODY. HE WAS BREATHING HARD. I CALLED THE LFS BEFORE THEY CLOSED HE SAID THAT MY ANEMONE COULD HAVE GIVEN THE CLOWN A FUNGUS. I COULDN'T GET TO THE LFS BEFORE IT CLOSED SO I CROSSED MY FINGERS AND PRAYED HOPING HE WOULD PULL THRU TILL TODAY. THE CLOWN LOOKED BETTER. NOT EVEN 2 HR LATER HE WAS DEAD :(. WOKE UP THIS MORNING LOOKS LIKE MY OTHER FISH A LABORING A LITTLE. I SUPRISED HOW FAST THIS TOOK PLACE. ANYBODYS THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED

It's not fungas. Can you give some details about your tank. How long has it been set up, and what are the water readings?
What are the fish symptoms. You probably introducted a disease when you placed the clown in the tank. Could be velvet.

I have seen several fish stung by BTAs but clowns of course are ammune because of their proective coat- if a fish was to loose its ability to protect its self, it could get stung- the sting marks fade in a few days ( when a fish is stung you will often see whit spots where the tentacles touched it, especially in darker colored fish, ie: reds, pinks, blues and the like)- but is there any clues as to why it might have lost this coat- i know that a low ph can affect the fishes skin an potentially make it suseptible to stinging- im not sure on this one but hopefully with more information we can figure it out. What are your tank parameters?

BETH & J21,
THANKS FOR THE REPLY:
TANK HAS BEEN SET UP FOR ABOUT 5 MONTHS ALL WATER PERAMETERS WERE GOOD AMMONIA 0, NITRATES 0, NITRITES 0, PH WAS A LITTLE HIGH 8.4 BUT THIS HAS BEEN COORECTED. MY CLOWN WAS THE THIRD FISH I PURCHASED HE HAS BEEN IN THE TANK FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS. THE 2 NEWEST ITEMS IN THE TANK ARE THE BUBBLE ANEMONE & 4 LINE WRASSE (HE HIDES ALOT BUT WHEN HE'S OUT HE CRUISES. SYMPTOMS OF THE CLOWN THAT I NOTICED WAS THE WHITE/CLEAR SPOTCHES ON HIS BODY AND THE RIGHT & LEFT SIDE DIRECTIONAL FINS WERE TATTERED. ONE THING THAT IS WEIRD NOW IS MY DOMINO DAMSEL IS HANGING OUT IN THE ANEMONE. WHAT EXACTLY IS VELVET?

How are the other fish doing now? The clown may have had a bacterial infection. The thing to worry about now, is whether what the clown had was contagious or not.

BETH,
THE OTHER FISH APPEAR TO BE DOING OK. THEY ARE ALL EATING. THE ONLY ONE THAT SEEMS TO BE BREATHING DIFFERENT IS THE DOMINO DAMSEL. THEN AGAIN THIS FISH IS SO HYPER MAYBE I JUST DIDN'T NOTICE IT BEFORE. WHEN I GOT HOME FROM WORK YESTERDAY 1 DID A 25% WATER CHANGE AND ON ADVICE FROM THE LFS GUY BOUGHT SOME MIRAFLEX AND BEGUN TREATING MY TANK. (I DID REMOVE THE CARBON FROM THE FILTER.) A QUESTION FOR YOU WILL THE ANEMONE DIE WITHOUT A HOST? WHAT DO I FEED THE ANEMONE? CAN I FEED THE ANEMONE THE SAME STUFF (I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT IT'S CALLED).
