Dude, time to refinance. My bank gives me a 30 day grace period on my car note. That I could theoretically use every time... God knows I forget to mail out my payment till the the due date.

Years ago I took over a car my niece had, I took over the payments and kept her car when she went to college. Long story short the car broke down after 6 months and I was left with car payments and no car. I paid that “late” but under the grace period every month until it was paid off, I even paid the $10.00 extra they asked for when the date got beyond the grace period, which it sometimes did. I was young and struggling to make a car payment on my running car, and feed my 3 children.
So I hate to burst your bubble….In the end, that last car payment was not the $108.00 I expected…no…it was in the hundreds way above that. They legally, and to this day I don’t know how, but my lawyer said it was right…could charge me interest on the time between the payments, and it added up big time. Every deferred payment, every late payment, every time I went into the grace period cost me money in interest.

GRRR…I HATE those phone computers… if you want this push that button options. No options to find a human, I really lose it. Pity the soul when I do get through.
LOL…once I got so frustrated at not having a human person option that I just started pushing buttons like a keyboard…low and behold a human came on to see what the problem was. Now I do it all the time. No customer rep…now that’s something to complain about.

That would make sense. Don't worry, I don't do defer it the whole month. But like this month, I completely forgot about my car payment until well I saw this thread... Due on the fourth, and there is no mail till monday...
as for in your case, they'll do a couple of different things depending on the contract. In my case it is the average balance for the month. So if you're average balance was one payment higher than it should have. Over a few years, having a balance at the end of the payment term would make sense.

The due date is in fact the due date. After this date you are LATE. The late date is the last day you can send payment in before they tack on additional charges or raise your interest rates and such.
So in fact YOU are late. have you called them to let them know payment is on the way. I find it amazing that people will complain when a company calls to track down their money owed but the same people do not have the courtesy to call the company back and inform them of what happenned. Maybe if youi did that, your mild annoyance would stop.
Exactly.
Re: the OP, Sorry, but at the moment you realized you missed a payment, you should've been pro-active enough to contact the lender to say so. Most are completely understanding of extenuating circumstances including "I forgot." Contacting them is not only proper etiquette and protocol, it's also polite.
You entered into a contract which you, no matter what the reason - intentionally or not, violated the terms of. You can hardly blame them for being paranoid about their
money, especially given the current economic circumstances.

might want to read all the posts before you add your opinion.lack of the facts will bite you i the a**
i finally got a call from an actual person from the emails i sent.i told him about not being able to get on the phone with a person.he went through all the calls they made and saw a few problems on their end.so as far as i a concerned i should have been pissed.we worked it out and i have actually been rounding up my payments when i pay online so the payment that is due was almost half paid .so i paid that and next payment .he was actually a pretty nice guy for a collector.
he told me some nasty stories of what people try to do to hide from them.glad it aint me.he did say he dont know why i was getting so many calls from the computer since i have been paying on time since the start and he said he will look ito it.
so in the end i am happy it was resolved and i will call off the ftc dogs.
oh yea almost forgot he said i could defer 2 payments if i want.i said no .might need them on a rainy day

Ooops. My mistake for having agreed with a respondent to your original post.
Not sure what I'm missing. Perhaps you didn't include pertinent facts in it?
I based my opinion on what you originally posted, which included holding off on making payment so you could amass potential harassment documentation and accusing the people who loaned you money of being bottom feeders for calling you when you missed a payment.
You're absolutely correct. Lack of facts will bite someone somewhere.

again read all the posts.they didnt loan me the money.they are not the origional lenders.they bought the loan .
and yes after i tried to contact them they harassed me admittingly.the person i talked to today said i should not have been getting so many calls since i have made all past payments on time.get it?
so since i dont feel i should have been harassed the day after the due date i did wait to build a harassment situation.they have apologized and now i feel good about the resolve.and if they do this to anyone hurting right now they should not have loaned the money in the first place.he did tell me i could get a person on the phone by punching in 0 then #.how the hell am i supposed to know to hit the # after the 0 for operator?

Happens all the time. Legally immaterial.

Doesn't matter whether I get it or not. If they admittedly harrassed you and
you can prove it, you may have a case. I truly wish you good luck in establishing the fact in court.

What you "feel" has nothing to do with anything. I empathise, but in a court of law, that matters not at all. Sorry.

actually proving it would have been easy.they were calling our cell phones.all calls are listed.as i said this was a two way street they owned up to harassing me of course they didnt use that word.he understood why i was pissed and said he was sorry.i can live with that.alls well that ends well.
funny i knew mortgages were sold but not car loans.
