Deep Sand Bed

I have heard alot of benefits of a DSB. I understand that DSB's should not be stirred so my question is that if you run a shallow sand bed in the display, could you run a dsb in the sump? If you had corner overflows could you fill the bottom with sand about 4-5 inches with out any negative affects?

a DSB needs a few things to be successful.
*Plenty of micro critters
*No predation
*top portion stirred by the micro critters, deeper left undisturbed
*brisk current flowing across it to prevent detritus buildup.

so would it be ok to fill an overflow with sand 5-6 inches I have a 150 gallon tall which i believe is 31" tall.

As long as you can fill those requirements, sure.
