Definitely my last order from SWF.com

Hey Everyone,
Well my 30 gallon established tank of almost 3 years is now completely dead due to an order I received from SWF 2 days ago. All was fine and I added a reef pack and some crabs and now everything has died overnight, including my existing fish. To say I am pissed would be an understatement. Not sure what came with the fish, but something did. I did not empty any of the water in the bags in my tank and yes I acclimated them all.

No didn't have time this morning before work, my wife has been netting all the dead fish all day.
I assume it is ammonia spike from the fish that I got from SWF dying off.

You say you got a reef pack and some crabs then you say you're not sure what came with the fish. What fish? you said a reef pack and some crabs. I say you should have quarentined and i can't see how they are to blame. You should look you system over and be sure what happened. 1 plus 1 is two but something else is probly at fault with you're tank. It's probly just a coincidence.

What did you order? Are you sure it's the SWF order that did this? Maybe it's just coincidence and something else went wrong. The reason I ask is because all the fish I ever bought from here are still alive and doing well. I was very impressed with how healthy they arrived, free of any diseases.

Did you include some of the water that was in the bags? How did you acclimate?
Honestly, I wouldn't blame swf.com for the deaths in your tank, though if items died in transit you could have used their guarantee policy. The deaths in your tank might be the way you handled the new inhabitants. I guess it comes down to "always QT", even inverts/coral/LR/etc. This could have happened no matter who you got your order from...

What fish did you add?
There is no disease that I know of that would wipe a tank within hours of it's introduction.

I doubt you got that big of an ammonia spike from a hermit death. But its difficult to say, what was on your stocklist? Maybe the new addition was enough of a bioload change to cause a spike though. Either way, sorry for your loss, good luck with other vendors

I agree. I would also say that I cannot think of a human disease you could catch and die within hours. I would have to say it is just unlucky timing.
What all did you add to the tank?
How long did you acclimate?
What are your parameters?

It is kinda chaos at the minute, trying to save what I have left, if any. So I will post more tonight.
I just got the 20-55 reef cleaner kit and a tongue coral. One more sally lightfoot and that is it.

Good luck.
Use clean containers, Check your heater, salinity, other parameters, etc.
I can only imagine your frustration, but like I said there is just no way a disease or parasite came in and wiped out your tank overnight. Something else occurred.

Has anyone sprayed any type of air fresheners in the area lately? Do you think anything like this could have made its way into the tank? A lot of people don't think about that stuff when they are sprucing up the place (the ones that don't own the tank) so this is always a possibility. I know I caught my wife spraying near my tank one time and I would have liked to spray it in her breathing air for about an hour and see how she turned out LOL... Just a thought.

I've had the same thing happen before. I wondered if my lionfish poisoned everything, or if I got something in the tank.
But the mistake I made was buying some ---- from a site, instead of a trusted fish store where I could see it and watch its habit and check it for irregularities. Don't give up bro. I'm on my 3rd time around.

Cucumbers can be extremely toxic when they die. It is wierd this happened, but there is apossibilty that it was too much added at one time, one or two creatures died and you did get an ammonia spike as well.
Sorry for you-Its painful when our critters die.
SWF will give you a credit if you bag your dead critters and send them back to them.
I have also ordered items from them in the ast and been pleased, but I do follow the acclimation guide strictly using the drip method into buckets that are ONLY for my fish.
By any chance could the container you used for acclimation have had soap or any other residue in them? That could account for a total wipeout.
