You definitely should NEVER buy saltwater creatures of any sort unless you see them first, inspect their movements/swimming habits, check for any fin rot or fast breathing and I always ask (sometimes they can't) to see the fish eat something first to make sure it has an appetite.
I'm not knocking you for making a purchase from here. It seems like a very reliable source. Just expressing my method of marine purchases. I'm a new guy on this site but I've got a few years under my belt and some heartbreak of losing a VERY expensive tank as well. I hope you get it set back up. Best of luck.
Just my opinion,
Algy
P.S. I would empty EVERYTHING shock/kill your live rock with fresh water add the salt and let it run for AWHILE before adding anything. Thats what I did years ago, and I've had good luck since.

I would definitely NOT nuke your live rock...
While i understand wanting to purchase from vendors where you can see the fish eat, the truth is I can usually get a fish to eat. I can't heal a fish from acclimation shock, Ammonia poisoning, internal damaging from being netted harshly, trauma from overcrowded tanks, etc. SWF gets their fish directly from the collecters in the Pacific. That means if I order here It goes through 2tanks before it gets to mine. To me, that's worth it.
Diseases that you mentioned are a non-issue. All fish and inverts should be QT'd. Many diseases and parasites will not be visible to the

eye and therefore examining a fish in the store does not protect you from a whole host of potential issues.

I must say Kudos to the admins of this forum!
To allow a post that completely bashes the host company rocks! I myself feel the OP is obviously wacko to insinuate that an order he got from an online etailer caused his entire tank to self destruct. But, there are newbies who might see this post and think twice about ordering from here.
But, those peeps really are not in the hobby for long term. Those of us who will be here for the next few decades appreciate your letting this thread ride.
So, can you get me a RainFord Goby? A mated pair?
I will place an order for a few maintainence products next week. I do need quite a few things....
