Dental People!! What's the difference between.....

An orthodontist and a dentist have recommended I have a splint made for jaw clenching (and the headaches that come with that). The dentist says he can make me one for about $500 and the Orthodontist says $1500. Keep in mind they are both calling it a splint. What is the difference between a splint and a nightguard?

The difference between a Splint and Night Guard is that a Night Guard is only worn at night and a Splint may be worn full time (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).

Thanks for the reply. That's basically what I found online too. So do think a person could wear their night guard during the day, and it would essentially be the same thing as wearing a splint all day?
