Dented Brain Coral--What's WRONG!

Here are my tank's spec's: 55 gllns; 85 lbs LR; 1.5-inch aragonite substrate; PC lighting--2 daylight & 2 actinic (260 watts total); 11 different types of corals; 3 fishes--tang, dwarf angel, clownfish; 2 cleaner shrimp; 2 starfish; caluerpa plant; wet/dry filter; venturi-style skimmer; uv sterilizer; water perameters read o.k.
For the past few days, I've been noticeing that the flesh on my purple dented brain has not been swelling like it had been. You can see the coral's skeleton on certain small areas. The coral is situated about middle distance from the surface of the water. I add supplements only once or twice a week.
Can anyone help me out on this one?

When you say parameters are okay-what does that mean? My thoughts based on your info, is that stinging from nearby corals is effecting the brain. What others corals do you have? Even mushrooms too close will effect him. Just an idea-anybody else?--Bob

Even though Brain corals are listed as easy to keep, that is not always the case.
There are many instances where brain corals fail to survive in reef tanks in what appears to be optimal conditions.

Here are the water parameters: 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 2 ppm nitrates, pH at 8.4, calcium at 450+.
There are no other corals touching the dented brain. The closest one (torch coral) is about 3, maybe 4, inches away. I also have a bright-green brain coral. It seems to be doing fine.
Hope this additional info. helps out!

I would keep an eye on the torch at night. Torch corals are very aggressive and this coiuld be causing your problem. I agree with Burn that brain corals are a little more difficult to be a beginners corals(not saying that you are-just stating the difficulty of the coral). If the torch is the culprit, then move the brain away from him and monitor him closely for improvment.
One other thought that I had, did the brain fall at any point? Meaning, did it fall off rocks or anything like that? This would cause damage the flesh of the coral. Just yet another thought. I hope this helps you. --Bob
