Depth of sand bed

My sand bed is just shy of 4" - do I need to make it deeper? I'd rather not, however, good biological filtration is what I'm looking for......

I have heard anywhere from 4 to 6 inches is good. Anyhting over 8 inches is over kill.

If you are just shy of 4", and everything is doing well in the tank, leave it be.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

You certainly don't need to add more. It is possible that your tank could benefit from more but that doesn't mean that it won't thrive as it is. As long as the nitrates are kept at reasonable levels with water changes etc. you will be fine.
