OK. I am looking at my tank this afternoon, and I notice this!

What the heck could have happened? He was fine yesterday.
Other inhabitants: baby domino, blue devil, canary wrasse, blue-green chromis, various small hermits and emerald crabs. One Ophiolepis superba sepent star and one Fromia star.
I am clueless!

Horrible, horrible,, i feel for you, I hope he makes it but it doesnt look good! Its gotta be one ot he damsels,, no? Have you seen him being picked on by any other fish?

He beats both of them up, he is larger than them. This looks like one big CHOMP taken out of his back.

I am thinking I must somehow have a big critter that I don't know about. Haven't added any live rock or coral in 11 months, since right after restarting this tank after Katrina killed it.

It's possible it could be a mantis I guess, but seems like I would have noticed one before now?

I have snapping noises in my tank constantly, i dont know if it is a hidden mantis or a pistol, but i am noticing an unsual amount of empty shrimp and hermit crab shells lately! Good Luck on your crisis!

I don't hear any pops. I used to... but I had a pistol shrimp buddy for my watchman. I haven't seen the pistol in some time (months), although I see the watchman from time to time.
Yeah alyssia, haven't been browsing here much. The tank is driving me nuts these days. I have a serious hair algae issue I can't get a handle on.
