Now that we can post links to other webstites, has anyone found a good source online for detrivore kits that you don't get killed on shipping? Most of the places i have found, a detrivore kit costs around $50, plus another $25-$40 for shipping.

ya i'd definitely be interested in getting a good detritvoire kit as well. I found one place that has those numbers for shipping and the price of the critters.

JavaJoe,
I spent some time searching sites for detrivore kits but really only found 2 sites that sold them and both had costs of ~90, with the shipping included. I ended up going to my lfs and bought some of the sand that they have in the bottom of their LR curing tank. I also ask for a handful every time I pick up a new piece of rock.

teh only problem here is tha tthe livestock needs to be overnighted, so most will be about the same, the best price i have found was about 90$, the only thing i could say is to help justify the price, add a couple of thngs to the order (just nothing that may eat your dets), or see if you can find someone who will help you wiht shipping and share an order(nad split the shipping), i know i can find someone else local who wants some fish or something and does not want to pay big for shipping, but you won't find a much better deal unless you can pick it up personally

I have used inlandaquatics.com and can recomend their kits. The pricing you are seeing is what it is there are no better deals (other than getting some curing tank rubble from a friendly LFS)

I have looked at and researched on numrous boards the kits from both of these sites(they do seem to offer good diversity)....personally I think you'd be better off with crud/rubble from LFS curing tanks and/or exchange sand with a fellow reefer that has an established system..........both provide the diversity needed in a stable system......at a much less expensive cost.........
