Diamond back goby missing???

Ok, we bought a diamond back goby last Saturday...she was out and about until about Wednesday, and we haven't laid eyes on her since then?? Should we be concerned?
Should we start pulling LR out of the tank and do a search for her?
Or would it be somewhat normal for a DBG to stay hidden for some lengths of time??
Just wanting to know if I should be paranoid or not.

gobies are jumpers. Is your tank sealed? If not, look around the tank and under things nearby. I've had two jump out of the tank.

We have had a top on it, but not at all times...I'll check that out when I get home.
Most times that we saw her earlier in the week, she was on the bottom and around the LR...didn't even venture past 1/2way up...but I'll check this evening.

oh - at night - they DO leave the bottom. Boy, I've learned the hard way that the tank must be sealed. I've giving up on gobies as my tank is open (due to MH).

I recently bought a yellow watchman goby. he also hung out around the bottom of the tank. A few weeks ago, i had the same problem as you... couldn't find him enaywhere :notsure: . Then, i was looking in my prefilter box, and there he was!!! I was like :scared: :scared: :scared: !!! I fished him out, and put him back in the tank. He had gotten sucked into the overflow box, up the siphon tube and into the prefilter box, where he had been for 2 days... he was starving, so i spot fed him for a few days, and now he's as good as new.

If you have an overflow box/prefilter box, i'd suggest immediately looking in there... I hope you find him!

OK, didn't see any evidence of a goby on the floor, or anywhere around the tank. I don't have an overflow, so that's out...he can't get into the Emporer 400 box...and not sure he could get into the skimmer...
So, I'm going to (for now) assume that she's somewhere behind, under, or somewhere else in the LR...
Should I start taking pieces out and do a full search for her?

hmmm... that may be a good idea, if she's dead, God forbid, and stuck below some rocks, she won't float, and will cause a spike in ammonia.

Just make sure you're really careful about removing the LR, it can mess up the water in the tank really bad. This is going to be a big project!
Good luck

I've had one for about a month. He's absolutely my favorite fish. Ton's of personality. He does swim all over the tank and likes to hang out on the rocks. The one thing I would suggest, my guy likes to go into his hole under the rock and then close up the entrance. He does this all the time and at first it really freaked me out. He goes into the hole and then starts blowns sand back outside. By the time he's done it looks like the hole is gone. A few hours later he opens it back up and is swimming around again. I wonder what he does in there by himself? :notsure:
