Recently ive been getting a brown film covering the corraline on my live rock. With a toothbrush i can gently scrub it off but I need to get rid of it for good. The only thing i can link it to would be phosphates. Although i havent tested for it, all my other parameters seem in line. I think the problem came from a water source i normally do not use.
Ive read the Rowaphos seems to be the media for phosphate removal but i have a few questions about it. Do i need a phosphate filter or can i just put it in a media bag and run it in my sump (like carbon)?
Any other ideas on what could be the problem would be great. My lights are less than 5 months old so they arent the problem and i even added another powerhead in my tank to increase circulation.
Thanks,
Mark

if you gonna run a phospahte removing material you need the chamber, you need to run low flow through the chamber and be able to mesure how much goes in, and at what speed.
how old is the tank?
what kind of corals IE Soft, LPS, SPS mixed?

alright, thats good about you not having SPS, you can run a pohos remover without worries, in SPS tanks, the suden reduction of P04 can bleanch/brown corals.
