I did a water change about 15-20% and now the tank is cloudy. I have a refugium with a 1,000 gph pump and a water mover thingy in the tank. I have 5 turbo snails 4 hermit crabs and a ugly PJ Cardinal that were in there before the WC. I added a coral beauty, goby and a pair of clowns. It's been like this for a few days now. What should I do. HELP. Thanks

What size tank to you have? In a smallert system the coral beauty, goby and pair of clowns could be a substantial load, and could cloud the tank. OTOH, sometimes changing the water stirs up gunk from the substrate and clouds the water. Keep a close watch on ammonium - if it goes up then you have overstocked, and should use Amquel Plus until you tank catches up with the load.

Its a 90 gallon bare bottom, we added the fish on Saturday and within a day the water was cloudy.

Hi,

Did you check for ammonia? Check it everyday and do another water change if you see any reading at all. I use the test strips for that...it's fast and easy, and any reading at all calls for the same thing...water change. Cloudy water after adding three fish at one time is usually ammonia related. In a 90g (the amount of water volume gives some wiggle room for error) and doing a water change will help the fish ride it out, and the cloudy water should go away in a few more days. Never add more then one fish at a time...or at the most two small ones.

All fish tanks have a balance of good bacteria to feed on the ammonia waste in the tank, when you add another critter, the balance is disrupted, and it takes a week or two (depending on the fish) for the system to rebalance. 3 fish at once is too many too fast for the good bacteria to keep up.

I will hold off on the lecture of using a quarantine tank...but if you notice little salt like spots on your fish...you will know why people use them for all new arrivals.

Tank has been running 3 months and I cycled with LR and water from my RO/DI unit. I had 5 turbo snails ,4 hermit crabs and a cardinal in it before I added these fish.
I checked ammonia, nitrites and nitrates all 0. Did a WC and none of the fish look sick or have any white spots. There swimming and eating normal but I haven't fed in 2 days. Looks better than the other day but will keep an eye on it. I'll keep everyone updated. Thanks for the info.

How did you acclimate your new live stock? Did you add the water they came in with your tank? Also do you have any gfo running? If so by chance did you change that as well?

Did another mini WC a few days ago and the water is crystal clear now. Tested my water today and it is ph 8.4, ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 0 and calcium 460
