Did I just do something dumb?

Its definetaly something to think about. Especially this time of year. Heck some losers actually scan the obituaries so they can break into peoples homes while they are at the funeral homes/burials.
Just keep your neighbors on the look out for you. Let them know what happened and they can know what to expect if they get the same call.
ditto with me on the pneumonia last year. I never stop to get sick. I some how think I can keep going. Then I drag myself to the doc and expect him to work miracles. He does this when he sees me

I just beg for the drugs and drag myself home.

Yeah but...there's no cure for the common cold, but pneumonia they can treat...
Might as well make it worth your while...

Okay, I did call the police to see if they have had any more calls like this and they said this is the first they've heard of it.

So somewhere in Ohio is a wife without her husband.... that's not really all that revealing.

Well, I just found out that my husband left his debit card at Wendy's on Sunday. :notsure: Wonder if that has anything to do with someone trying to verify our address.....
anyway, I already cancelled the card.

Oh that doesn't sound good. Too big of a coincidence for me, especially since I'm assuming no package was actually delivered yesterday. I'd imagine that their plan wasn't to rob your house but to just get the address associated with the debit card. They can change the delivery address if they have the old one.
Heres a link to the Federal Trade Commission's identity theft site. FTC
You might want to ask your bank if there's anything else you should do if someone has the card and your address.

They don't have the card anymore; I picked it up from Wendy's. Since someone could of wrote the number down though, I still cancelled the card and will be keeping a close eye on my account.
Thanks for the link!

I was out to eat a few years back and I put lunch on my debit card and when they took it someone stole my info and put about $3000 on it in a matter of hours...what sucked is that my bills had been mailed out 3 days before and all my checks bounced and it took me months to fix everything. The guy at the bank said it happens all the time and to make matters worse they rarely catch or even bother trying to figure out who did it.

honestly with the informayion she gave on this thread. anyone can find you. they can get your age, where you went to school, kids age, names, their schools. the internet is a scary thing when you know how to use it to it;s fullest potential. for 19.95 intellus will even give the info to you.
I have a friend the is in internet security and he finds pedifiles from their ISP #. that is how they get those sicko's of the net and away from our children.
your phone company can trace a number that is blocked or private, but they need to call you atleast 3 times from the same number and within a month's time.
If you google "overnight services" you should get their number if it is a lagit company. call them and ask for crystal. If not call your phone company, amke sure you tell the the date and the time of the call and they can note it for you incase it happens again. if they tell you it is a blocked number and can't get it then they are lying. If you had someones phone records supeenad, it would show all calls block or not...
On other thing you could do is get a security system in your room. .45 cal S&W....

The internet certainly is scary. I use it to "check" on my kids teachers and coaches.

Less than 5% of identity theft is the result of internet activity. Mostly it's what happened to Jmick, restaurant and bars are among the worst.
