I just started a new 72 gal setup on Sat. All new water, new fiji sand (not LS), 50 lbs base rock that was soaking in pre mix salt batch in clean 32gal rubbermaid trash can for 1 week. The cloudy water cleared up SOmetime Sunday evening. This morning (Monday) I tested the water and PH was 8.2, Amonia was 0, Nitrites .25, and Nitrates were 0. I used the drip test and notthe dip strips. I added about 45 lbs of Live Rock from my existing 55 gal setup that same monday morning and now at about 5:45pm Monday the Trites are down to 0 and the trates also at 0.
Would the higher trites come from the base rock? WOuld the LR fix the issue so quickly? Did I miss any amonia spike so soon in one day?
Any idea's? I did not test the base rock water after using (I dumped it). The 55 gal where I got the LR all read 0's with PH of 8.2
