Did you know that we had 58 or 59 states?

its a good jab at him, but i'm sure he was saying he's visited 57 states throughout the campaign.
but, yea, people are going to throw this out there just to poke fun.

2 scenarios:
a) he's stoopid.
b) he's counting stops, not states, meaning he's been in a particular state more than 1 time.

b)
Doesn't make sense, surely he has stopped in different states more than 57 times.
New option
c) freudian slip

I don't know... I get the argument, but even if he's visited the same state 2 times, it's still one state. Kinda like the people who have a house in FL and another in NY, for summer and winter. At the end of 5 years, they haven't lived in 10 differnet houses.
That was a bad way to word that...

He said yesterday that we were short of Arabic translators in Afghanistan because we had to send all of them to Iraq. That's a good thing actually, seeing as how they don't speak Arabic in Afghanistan.

10 page political discussions are fine, just avoid personal attacks.

And some people jump on McCain about the Sunni/Shite slip ups, That I can atleast understand. It would be the same as mixing up Cherokee and Chippewa.
But to say you have visted 57 states...come on dude, he even paused to think about it...

This could have been edited first of all.
Either way not a big deal... It's clear he meant 46 states with 1 left to go and that he was not able to go to Alaska and Hawaii.
People will try to find any way to dog Obama... even if its something as silly as this...
I'd rather him misspeak (if he indeed did say those words) than to say he's been to 47 states, and that he was under sniper fire and had to run from the plane to greet the locals.
Also a Sunni/Shiite mixup has greater implications on the current situation we are in. To compare the 2 is silly, especially for such a none issue.

lol, Obama supporter denies it. LOL!
That is awesome!
A Sunni/Shi-ite mixup is a little different than saying your country has 57 states. As far as absolute stupidity.
(no one is implying this episode indicates anything regarding his clear lack of competence.)

unfortunately it wasn't edited, its been on all the news reports too.
simple slip up

IMO, it would be a simple slip up if you did it, or if I did it, or if my kid did it. But we are talking about the man who is asking for the position to be the leader, the representer of this country. Simple slip ups are "acceptable" if they are immediately corrected, but otherwise, they are not. Simple slip ups are not something that a man in his position can afford.
Simple slip ups are not simple when they are directly related to your profession. It'd be like a college math teacher saying that 5+2 is 10. It's a simple slip up, but it's not tolerated in our high competitive country anymore. Not when there are to many people with the same advantageous skills that do not slip up.

If I am not mistaken, McCain has made that mistake more then one time and leads us to believe he might not have a clear understanding of the middle-east.
It is a funny mistake on Obama's part and shows that he is only human. If anyone truly believes he thinks there are 57 states then they have a major issue.

That being said, I've been in class and have had a teacher (who was rattling off his memorized notes) say something as dumb as 5+2=10. I had one teacher that as bad at that. So We'd let him go finish the problem (wrong) (many times this filled a 40 foot whiteboard) then laugh as he went back through the problem looking for the error. While we laughed at him. It was fun. He was smart enough to figure out what we were doing and started giving us pop quizes so we had to tell him.
