Hey Ryan and everyone else... I took a second chance now with my 90 instead of my 46 and decided to add fish without a qt and low and behold I added a mimic tang to my tank and this biatch has ich.... Well I am sick of hearing feeding vitamins will help rid them so and so but I know at a later point if any stress occurs the fish can have a outbreak, whether minor or major I don't want to risk it anymore..
Plans:
I want to setup a QT immediately.... I am going to use a 20L and I need to place an eel, maroon and mimic.I plan to use the water from my main tank and use the filter pad to have a pretty good established QT and run it on an emperor 400 I have laying around along with a heater. The mimic I am making the decision to take it back to the LFS and take back whatever I get as a credit... iam done with tangs...F there sensitivity level... I can't deal with it.. In my previous ick battle I lost about 250 bucks in fish because of my lack of knowledge..now it's my lack of better judgement... I was sad for both fish and my pockets. This time its about my affection for the clown especially my eel. I know they are tough as nails but do run the possibility of carrying it within their gills(if I can leave them in the display or the eel at least is the ich still a risk?)
Ryan...is the QT good enough to run for 3-4 weeks and then bring them back to the DT? Or must I do a salinity upbringing over a weeks period?? I am asking because I am out of town for 3 days at the end of November and if it was a matter of just top offs my dad who will be staying at my house could deal with it along with pre made foods but again I will be out.... If I can QT and bring them back to the display in a matter of 28-29 days that would be great.. Thanks for advice and man it took a second time to set this thing up but hey it has to be done if I want peace of mind or at least say I did the best method of prevention. Thanks everyone..... this blows... again but I am not totally shocked since it happened once..I already know what the end result can be..

P.S. In the event I am out of town with my father having to deal with it I have also thought maybe I can setup a divider towards the end of the 20g made of eggcrate and he can slowly add in new saltwater say a cup a day to slowly bring up salinity..?? I don'tt think my dad would be to fond of a 22" sfe swarming around him..I can deal with it...he couldn't..

Hey Nick, don't beat yourself up about it. We all make mistakes. At least you are taking care of the issue from the start.

Always a good idea.
I am going to use a 20L and I need to place an eel, maroon and mimic.
Should not be an issue.
I plan to use the water from my main tank and use the filter pad to have a pretty good established QT and run it on an emperor 400 I have laying around along with a heater.
Sounds good so far.

In all honesty, if a healthy/hardy species is chosen, tangs should not any more susceptible than most other fish.
(if I can leave them in the display or the eel at least is the ich still a risk?)
I am not really sure what you are asking here.

If you are going to do hyposalintiy (1.009), you must bring your quarantine back to 1.025 over a week's time.

I would not chance it. I would probably just leave them in the quarantine an extra week until you get back, rather than boost the salinity too fast.

Like I said, Nick, it's nothing to get too mad about. It happens to all of us at one point, or two, or with some, countless. Give yourself a lot of credit for taking care of the issue right away and making sure it is just a slight problem, and not a deadly one.

Like I said, I would probably just leave them in hypo a week longer, rather than bring them up too fast and risk the ich living.

Ryan...... what I meant with the eel is should he be able to remin in the main dt with no contraction of the ich? Or should I just hypo him as well? Of the 3 he is my favorite and losing him will really bring me down. btw could I use a cheezy skimmer in the qt to help assist with filtration or should I just stick with the emperor and a powerhead in the qt?... I am not planning to drop this hobby because of a second occurence but rather determined to succeed.. i didn't qt my second time around because of flack i got from family members who seemed to laugh at the thought but can clearly kiss my --- now and laugh all they want... I want to enjoy a tank with healthy fish...not a "maybe this won't have ich , in you go fella!) Sorry venting
btw I thought hypo can be conducted over 3 weeks? or is it 4?

Hypo can certainly be done over three weeks, but the catch is that you begin counting for the three weeks when you no longer see any ich on the fish.
Then, you need another 7 days to bring the salinity back up.
I would definitely still hypo the eel. There is a chance he can carry the ich. There is less of a possibility, but it can still happen.
No skimmer is needed on the QT. You probably do not even need the powerhead. If you run the emporer 400, you will have 20X the turnover on a 20 gallon.
No need to apologize for venting. You are doing the smart thing if you choose to quarantine all new fish. Anyone who says differently is uninformed.

Well the pos tang died ......whatever...i have had no luck with those suckers but still through my own fault but still sucks considering from the research I did they are the more hardy of tang species.
Ryan. I know this is off topic but.....what are some strong fish I can drop in a 90....aggressive I was going to aim for a community but I need some guys tough as nails... I am still planning to QT them before placing them in but a good line up of strong fish is a better start than a weak one..
Current fellas..
gold striped maroon, sfe...
Give me your list man please of species you would consider.... variety is
always a + of course...

Hey Nick, I am sorry to hear that you lost the fish. I will try to think of some fish suggestions for you. Did you have anything in mind that you wanted to try putting in there?

brother..... at this point I am open to suggestions..lol My wife is beatin on me about adding fish...I am just in the middle of completing the sump... I am fond of the blue throat trigger

The blue throat trigger would go well.
I am trying to think of some suggestions, but I am extremely picky about the fish I put in my tank, so it is often hard for me to give other people suggestions at times.

lol I am too.....Ryan.... I am aiming at having 2 large fish with the blue throat being 1 and maybe a harlequin tusk..... I was aiming at maybe a flame angel later....like i said..throw something out there... don't worry about your choices... this is a favor I ask...and don't think I havent done my homework...I have...but my choices were including sensitive fish...don't think so...
Ryan... my gold stripe maroon didn't even flinch to anything the tang was hit with...I know they are tough as nails and she gets fed a variety of foods, including, squid, clam, silversides, formula 1&2 frozen, mysis, pellets, and krill... all soaked with vitachem and garlic. If in fact she shows no signs and I wait a good 5-6 weeks before I add the next fish of course going into a QT before my tank is it safe to say the ick could not host and died?
Thanks,
Nick
