try to avoid ***** just for principle. ours doesn't sell live sand, only bags of saltwater safe sand. water is cheap from a reputable lfs, so you may as well replace it. just take a sample of your tank water up there and they should test it for free for you, then you can decide whether to buy it there or not. cc does work for older enthusiasts who are used to tanks that look average but it takes more effort and time. younger hobbiests like me won't settle for a tank that looks that way. sand and increased tech makes for a much more immaculate tank. don't remove your lr to get the cc out, it will do more harm than good. just get as much cc out as you can. if you have a refugium or a sump dump a bunch of that cc in there to seed your new ls.

This statement worries me, the LR she sold me she just put into a bag, sealed it w/o water. It took me about 2 hours before I placed it in water...She claimed she knew what she was doing and was actually recommended by someone who had a salt water tank that she set up.

your LR is fine in the sealed bags. Mine was wrapped in wet newspaper for quite some time and was fine. Just an FYI about *****... some people on this site call it DEATHCO. I've never been there but... they must have reasoning for their opinions.

my first lr shipment i ordered off the web. it came wrapped in wet newspapers also. really good growth and i had a spike in levels, but for a first tank it turned out really well. it was some of the best lr i've bought. my theory on it is that noone who has good stuff locally wants to let go whereas on the web you can find cheap dealers. i have probably 600lbs just waiting around because i can't bear to let huge or unique pieces go. my wife says i like rock better than fish. :notsure:
i wish i could remember who i got that stuff from. it looked very similar to the rock on this site, only in huge pieces.

Fish with ich can also rub themselves on rock. I don't really think you should keep ich just in case of an ich outbreak. You should take other precautions to make sure ich doesn't enter your tank.

Since you just started (Yesterday at the time of this post), and your tank is small, I'd suggest getting the water out and refilling with RO/DI water, either from a LFS or from a water unit such as at a grocery store. The LR could be kept in a bucket (Probably with the water currently in the tank) heated and agitated while you get the CC out if you want and put in some sand.
Since your tank is small, you could get by for now by buying RO/DI water, but you'll probably want a larger tank in the (near) future, and having your own RO/DI unit is very highly desirable.
I don't think you've screwed the pooch irreparably, and you've caught this in time to more easily rectify it.
