Dieing clam!!! Help!

Hiya,
Not sure what species of clam this is, Bang thought it was a turkey claim, but didn't have a visual picture. I think I've finally got that fixed.
Well, I came home to night and it looks like it's loosing it's grip! It's foot is very stretched and looks torn. What can I do?

Hiya,
It's in the mid right of the picture. If you look at the whitest item in the picture that's it's foot.
Is it going then? The tank is only 8 days old, I had no idea this was on the LR I got until a few days ago. Is there anything I can do?

Hiya,
Magic-carp, it's about the size of a golf ball actually. I'm still learning how to take underwater pics. Plus, I've got a migrane that won't quite.
So, do you think it might live? I didn't think barnical's had foots.
If it dies, what will it do to my cycle?

What kinda camera do you have?
If you can manually set the white-balance on the camera, that will help the color some. Try different settings like "flourescent", "incandescent", "cloudy", etc. You will get different results on each setting, just play with it and see what turns out best.

Well, I got up this morning and the creature is lying on the bottom of the tank. I had to run to work, so I'm not even sure it's alive anymore

I'll see if I can get a better picture when I get home.

Don't worry about losing the clam. When cycling a new tank with Live Rock, you will lose a lot of those cool critters. Few coral hitchikers survive in an aquarium.
The clam will help the cycle along.
A cycle is really just die off which produces ammonia. Ammonia eating bacteria begins to form and turn the ammonia into nitrite, and then the same happens turning the nitrite into nitrate. In a cycle you are waiting for the nutrient eating bacteria to multiply.
In a few weeks you should notice some life springing up in your tank. Pods, worms, etc...

I had one do the same thing. There was nothing that you could of done...with it being a hitchhiker on a rock...your cycle would kill it. Believe me the cycle kills off a lot of things...but once the tank gets going you will have a beautiful display of a lot of great creatures.

::sniff:: I know...but I still hate to see it go. I have noticed another one that is larger then the one I lost attached to the same rock. He seems to be doing well. Hopefully, he'll make it through the cycle.
