Most LFS near me give them two weeks, if they kick the bucket after that it's not their fault. Call, ask, bring him back with a water sample, they might refund you. I get my fish from a legit guy, he quarantines all fish for two weeks before he will sell them. Kinda frustrating as a customer, but a good practice.
If LFS says "no" then hum taps and give him the flush. Hopefully he didn't disrupt the chemistry, monitor closely, get a new fish or different species. Best of luck.
