difference between true and false percs?

the differences are the number of dorsal fins, the eyes are different colors and the true percs have more black then occ.
mixing those clowns are OK as long as they arent both female

I think "I" know what you meant, but just in case the OP didn't... (LOL)
Not the # of dorsal fins, but rather the number of spines IN the dorsal fin. True's have 10, occe's have 11.

Some more input:
true perc:
grow slower
reportedly more aggressive - especially wild caught
tend to cost more
Smaller when full grown
It is generally felt you should not keep different clown species in the same tank.
The larger the tank, the less likely you would have issues.

So I stumbled on this thread and just spent more time that I should have trying to count the dorsal spines in my clowns... it's a lot harder than I thought it would be. Guess I have to get a good picture and try it that way.

i was told by my guy at my LFS that true pers have whiter whites and more vibrant coloring. the ocellaris are more murky colored. when i was comparing the two at the store i made my decision...true percs hands down!!!
