I didn't find this in my tank, but how cool would that be?! Anyways, I remember reading something about a certian type of crab that waves around little nets/webs to filter feed, but I don't remember what it was. I don't think it was a common porcelian crab either, anyone have any ideas maybe? They looked sooooo cool!

I do believe its a shrimp native to the deeper, colder waters of the ocean. I dont know if it would do so well in the captive, bright, warm waters of the home aquarium. I could be wrong though.

As I said in the first post, I don't think it's a porcelean crab. The one I rememers had a bit of color to it's little nets, but if you come up with something Mark let me know? Even if I can't keep it in my tank, I still kinda want to read up on it.

Well the pic doesnt do the crab justice, in fact my little guy had bright blue feeders and mandibles.

Still not sure. Googled both, still dont really look like what I was thinking of. Maybe I'm just crazy. X] Those Pom pom crabs sure are something though, I might have to look into those a bit more later when I have a bigger, established tank.

yea for sure sounds like a porclein crab..they come in many different colors too so the link that the guy gave you above mine doesnt exactly mean it has to look like that exact one...but from the sound of what your tryin to explain...sounds like a porclein crab

Just today I collected a couple porcelain crabs here in Ft. Pierce, FL- Home of Saltwaterfish.com. I have a 75 gallon Fowlr that is 100% native- sand, rock, water, fish and inverts. My son and I regularly flip over rocks at low tide and a couple of the rocks were home to hundreds of porcelain crabs. The ones we have here are dark brown, with greenish blue appendages around their mouth. They are filter feeders, and wave their net-like appendages in the current to collect food. Another interesting aspect of these crabs is how flat the are- a crab the diameter of a quarter could easily fit in a coin slot on a newspaper machine!
