The Coralife SS skims well. but it floods.
Just lastnight mine decided to fill the cup and start shooting water out the top hole about 4" in the air..Luckly i just went upstairs to bed and heard it..still dumped over a gallon of water out.

FOR A 55 GALLON TANK
coralife is a good bang for the buck skimmer but can not hold its own against something along the lines of a octopus or deltec.
You cant really over-skimm...so if you have the money for a octopus or deltec get it...if not then a coralife is prob a good fit as its about the best bang for the buck in that price range.
AS&M is also a step up from coralife IMO.
I have 2-coralife ss220's on my 210 and as soon as the wife settles down about the $$$ i just spent on my geo calcium reactor setup I am getting an octopus or a used deltec if i can find a good one.

Wow I didn't even know they made Excaliburs anymore.I been using one since 99'.It works great, can't ever seeing me replacing it with a newer skimmer. They all look like good skimmers to me.

imho every coralife looked sucky to me.. my cusin has a 220 i think ( the bigger one) on his 100 gal w/30 fuge system and i dont think it can handle it.. the tank is not even that stocked.. also my lfs has one on there display and to me both dont seem to be all that great.. i dont kow how much they cost soo i can say on the 'best bang for the buck' but i think the bubble/ foam in them are not that good.. they arnt that think and milky to me.. more in the line of a berlin bubble/foam .. i have messed around with skimmer ofthen enough that for under $100 i could make a skimmer that will preform better then the ones that i seen.. ( wont look as nice thoo..) not try to bad mouth the thing but just telling you my opinion on them.. again they might be the best bang for the buck... and who knows.. if your handy you can mod it some and beat the crap out of the others on that list .....

That's a funny statement there. I used to run an AquaC, until I read several threads on the other board and was more than convinced to buy an Octopus NW-200. There is absolutely no comparison between the two skimmers or any of the others previously mentioned. The Octopus will skim circles around all skimmers previously mentioned.

Agreeded, I didnt know that they made them anymore either, I have the excalibur SV2 (skims 150gal) on a 55gal and works like a champ I would never think about replacing it.

Mine does for no good reason, great skimming though. I use it on my 55 DT, and use a deltec on my 150, i really like it, but kinda overkill on a 55.

I had one for 2 years, and it never impressed me. It is a decent skimmer IMO.

I'm not familiar with that model Octopus, looks like an HOB to me. The design however looks very similiar to the Remora, and the price is much cheaper.
