Hi all,
Does anyone know what the difference is between a male and a female blue hippo tang and a male and female yellow tang? How can you tell them apart?

the female hippo will hv hormone swing 2-3x per day. the male hippo will stay away during this time. if u see a hippo tang swimming around with no sense of direction, then its a female.

Fish PMS is a sure giveaway. Watch for one to cower in a corner on occassion; that's the male. (and a wussy one!)

I don't think any tang has ever been successfully bred in captivity.

There was a guy in the UK that successfully got Hippo Tangs to breed and actually grew out some of the larvae.
It's not something you can do with most hobbiest tanks though. You can't just put two Tangs together and expect them to breed.
