Difficult to feed hawk!

I've been keeping hawkfish in my tanks since I started with the hobby a couple years back. I have a flame, blood red, falco, and my newest hawk is a red spotted hawk. They have always been very aggressive feeders except the red spotted. I think he is down right lazy. Unless a piece of food comes within a centimeter or bounces off him he won't go after it. I have resorted to feeding this lazy fish with a stick and he does very well. He always stays out in the open, swims without any problems, has no significant competition when it comes to feeding , and is very healthy but won't do much else. Has anyone ever experienced this or do I own the laziest hawk in the world!!!

P.S. All the hawks are in different tanks!

Hey, I was looking at getting a hawkfish...are they interesting fish??? I like fish with a lot of personality. I was thinking about a flame or longnose.

Mine WAS kool, but he didn't last very long because of my nitrates. He was my first fish. I was dumb and bought it before reading up. They like to use their fins to scoot around and sit on rocks while waiting for prey.

I have a long nose hawkfish and he started out not eating well either and I had to resort to feeding him on a stick also, but after acouple weeks of this he started feeding on his own and now I have to feed him on one side of the tank and drop food in for my maroons on the other side or my hawk will eat up everything. Good luck getting yours to eat. Hawkfish don't swim around alot in a tank, but when it comes to eating they are fun to watch lunging off their rock at the food, plus adds some different colors to the tank
