Disappearing Chromis

I have 7 in my 55 gallon and they are all one big pack. It is amazing when they sleep though because as was already said they hide in the smallest little openings. but as soon as those lights come on in the morning they are all out asking for food whenever i come to the tank.
They will even nip my finger if i let them! one of my clowns even thinks he's a chromis and swims in a pack with them.

I am pretty sure he did not die by suction - he was partially eaten when i picked him off the filter
He was not looking good the last couple of days - but I will look into foam filters nonetheless!

I am down to 4 now - 50 gallon tank. I may get more, if these 4 stay alive for awhile!

Down to 3! I found #4 underneath a hermit crab who was enjoying his supper. (I don't think the crab killed it, just was enjoying the feast)

I just got my 125 gallon setup on Tuesday with 50lbs of LR, 40lbs of LR that had been dried out, (I have 50 more lbs of LR on the way) 120lbs of LS...I drip acclimated 6 chromis last night and woke up this morning to find 2 dead....The other 4 seem to be doing fine, eating and cruising around the tank, checking things out...I'm still a little confused about the cycling process, I checked the PH, ammonia and alkalinity today....PH was 8.0, ammonia was 0.25 and the alkalinity was low...According to the test literature, no need to test the nitrite or nitrate yet...LFS told me not to worry about testing the water for a few weeks, because nothing would be going on until then, is this correct? Sure hope my 4 chromis make it, I don't want to find any more bodies tomorrow morning...
