What is your opinion on this movie that's been banned for so long? It's being released in 06. I for one am thrilled. Great movie in it's time, full of history, Uncle Remus should not be for gotten! history is history, cant sweep it under the rugs, best to appreciate the values and grow with it!
But then again Shirley Temple movies have been banished into the moritorium (sp)too!

It's a classic, I've considered buying ripped versions on ---- before. I for one will be buying it. Sometimes I think all the hoopla people make over things trying to be politically correct just draw more attention to the underlying issue. If they'd have just released it and not said anything nobody would have said a thing. Most of the protesters would also have you burn a fair amount of Mark Twain books as well.

You can look at the book if you like if you can find one, But the basic story is terrific, developed in the 50's, Uncle Remus is a black story teller, he tells stories that in the movie turn animated, Brer Bear, the fox, and the captive rabbit who begs not to be thrown into the briar patch! and more not to spoil it for you!
but the fact that uncle remus is a slave, and is portrayed as such had some well, human rights activists and I dont know, political do gooders protesting discriminations. Uncle remus was not allowed to attend the Premiere, (he was black) Disney took the movie out of video production! because of those protests. But turned around and built Splash Mountain at Disneyland, which is based on the movie! So I dont know, History is History, we cant sweep it under the rug and pretend it didnt happen! I beleive you as a new generation could appreciate the movies values and talents!
But like I said they've even taken Shirley Temple movies off the air! Talk about some great talents there!
I'll stop now! buy the movie, you'll like it!

I havent seen Song of the South since it was re-released in the 80's, but from what i can remember, the problem with Song of the South goes past Uncle Remus as a slave. The "Tar Baby" used to capture Brer Rabbit was deemed completely racist. When they built Splash Mountain 15 years ago, they had to leave the tar baby out. Instead, Brer Bear and Brer Fox catch Brer Rabbit in honey which in my opinion makes no sense at all. I work on Splash Mountain and cannot wait to see Song of the South again, even though if I have to hear Zippidee do da on more time i will pull my hair out!
*I worry that with all the hype that this movie has gotten over its many years of being banned will get all the pc people to try and go back and *edit out all the offensive stuff*
