Distilled Water??

What are your guys thoughts on using distilled water? I was told to use R/O water but i do not have the money to buy a unit nor does anyone in my area sell the water. I was told to use distilled water for my algae problem by a LFS, but i heard from a different source that the distilled water lacks nutrients that are benefitial to the tank. What should I do????
Thanks.

I used distilled water (Distillata) for about 2 years without ill effect to my tank. I did use Kent's "essential elements" with it. In fact I still do, but it may not be necessary. Distilled water (and I think RO/DI water) is all pure water minus the good elements as well as the bad.
Bought a Kent Maxxima RO/DI unit a few months ago. Wow...what a relief not to have to carry case after case after case of distilled water down to my basement anymore! I top off 3-5 gallons a day depending on the season and a 10% water change is 35 gallons or so. That is ALOT of water to lug home from the store and down a flight of stairs!

I also have been using distilled for the past 6 or 7 months while I save to buy RO/Di . No adverse effects and sofar also I have no problem with any algae. I just mix it with salt only for the water changes. I keep a jug that's mixed with kent Superbuffer-dkh only for top offs.

Could it make a huge difference with Distilled opposed to regular tap water? I mean even the instant ocean bag says to use distilled.
Do any of you guys have pictures of your tanks that you use distilled water on??
Just Curious.
Thanks guys.
