DIY 100-150gallon with sump/fuge

hey there ladies and gents
im desperate to set up a large tank with a sump/fuge in the 100-150 gallon range. i have some ideas but i know im missing a whole lot. any help would be great. drilled tank or overflow box? plumbing? flex hose or hard plastic which type of piping would one use?. bulkheads?, how many outlets are a must with this size tank? i have a 20 gallon at my folks place and i cant trust it there any longer please help!!!!! thanks a million in advance

Welcome!!!!! First question is..... Is the tank your looking for already made or something you want custom built??? I'd spend the extra money/work on a "reef ready" drilled tank over a HOB overflow system. Nothing wrong, but takes a little extra work and space that way. Basically a simplier setup IMO.
As far as bulkheads not sure what your after, but that will be determined by size of holes in the tank or pump size at times. I always have larger setups and usually use 1 1/2" for my drains, 2" for my CL, my return lines I never reduce down, but that's a personal choice IMO.
Plumbing styles varies.... Both hard PVC and SpaFlex are easy to use. SpaFlex is a bit more quiet than hard PVC, and you can make bends/turns easier, and less resistance and head loss with SpaFlex.
Bottom line go as big as you can afford and manage!!!! Get as big of a sump as you can fit as well!!!! Keep us posted.:hi:

I have a 220gallon skimmer by coralife. i need a sump to house it what steps should i take to have the biggest sump possible under my tank? ill go pre drilled 90 gallon unless i can move my couch over a bit.

I Agree with Acrylic51, buy one with a predrilled tank, but if not? Use a diamon bit hole saw!
Be VERY carefull, if you drill while tank is full, I've seen a few Fiascos when they crack the glass while tank being full. IMO to be safe, i would do an overflow since it seems you have water in it (not sure since you said your moving your couch)

I just built a sump two days ago, I used a regular power filter, gutted it, and drilled a 1.5" hole on the bottom and placed a threaded male addapter to connect into a PVC down pipe, wich will pump my water down.
There are 1,001 ways of doing these set ups, Its up to you on which way to go!

There are lot of great books published that can take you from step one through stocking livestock. I would start there and then ask as you go for recommendations to what you have read and want to go with

Buy a few really good books, sit down and actually read them and make lots of notes. Buy a notebook and design your system from out of the books and the research that you do on the internet. There are many different ways to set up and maintain a saltwater aquarium and it's up to you to decide that your preferences are and what you are personally trying to accomplish.
It's better to ask specific questions about certain things than a broad "What do I need to buy to keep Nemo?" type of question.

I looking to purhase a new tank 90-150gallon pre-drilled. I want a sump/fuge underneath the tank that will function correctly with my skimmer, and of course fit in and under the stand. Ive read many books and have some ideas. Im more in to corals with a small clown, goby and a flame angel. I rather not shove anything that big in it to keep my water quaility at its best. ill figure it out just fishing for some ideas

Have you decided on a tank? What is the footprint (dimensions) of the proposed tank? Will you be purchasing a stand or building your own stand? Depending how far along you are in the purchase area, we'd need to have some type of idea what the dimensions are on the tank your leaning towards, and size of the stand. If your just getting the setup it's would be a little easier to fit a good size sump in the allotted space while the tank is still off the stand. Stand construction will also dictate somewhat; what we can squeeze inside the stand as well.
I saw in an earlier post you mentioned something about Coralife 220 skimmer??? Is this the skimmer you've already purchased?
