DIY glasswork and many other questions

My husband and I are planning on doing our own sump system out of glass. Has anyone done an actual tank? We have no prior experience with glasswork and the thought of doing a tank with all that weight worries me. Any experience?
I also would like to know if someone could help assist me in the sump layout. We are also buiding our own stand for the tank. We can build it any size, and before we do anything I want dimensions figured out ahead of time. Don't want a stand that is too small to house our equipment.
Any help on any of these MANY projects would be appreciated. I can also post an e-mail address since some of these topics can become lengthy. Thanks!

Most people just buy another tank for the sump/fuge and cut and glue baffles into it. Also a lot of people use acrylic..Its a little bit easier to work with than glass IMO. You can also shape and attatch it anyway you want, without having to be limited like glass.

Can you purchase Acrylic at Home Depot or Lowes? Do I need a specialty store to find it?

You shouldnt have a problem finding it at home depot

you wont find acrylic thicker than like qurter inch at home depot, only specialty store have good thicknesses, also if you drop me an email with questions on glass ic an answer them with some pics, i just built a 220 out of glass,, still waiting to do some minor things so that i can post up a DIY stand, tank, canopy etc. but if you need some sneak peeks i can give a a few
