DIY Rock - cure in the ocean?

Just out of interest, if I make my own rock shapes using cement, rock salt/crushed coral/oysters etc as described in some places, can I cure it out by actually sinking it in the ocean?
I was thinking of washing it for a couple of weeks to make sure it isn't going to leech anything nasty any more, put it all into a nylon mesh bag and then sink it onto reef, leave a few weeks then retrieve.
What do you think?

This may be illegal for you, unless you own the reef. If it's government waters you cant add the rock, because that would be dumping, or take it out because of what will end up living on it either. By the way, the guys who lease the area for aquaculturing LR leave it in the water for about 8 months.

Hey, I figured it would be, but I am legally allowed to place a lobster trap that is weighed down with rock. So will explore that as a technically legal way to get around it.

loophole! They didn't say you couldn't use the rock later for other stuff heh. Just check the trap per normal just keep using THAT rock till its ready.

If you go to the GARF.ORG web site and look for agrocrete they have been doing this for years now and use fresh water for about a month to cure the rock (PH spikes to over 9 while curing).
