DIY skimmer air ventures

I have a nice skimmer but the venturi part is in a bad spot and gets broken every time I do maintenance on the skimmer and to buy a replacement each time is getting a little ridiculous. Last night I worked up a better way for the plumbing to run that would eliminate a lot of the hassles but I need to get a 1/2 inch venturi for my new plumbing plan - where do the DIY skimmer guys and gals go for these air venturis?

I did find a site that talked about how to make ones own and I tried one (granted I think it was with a cheepy fitting that didn't "squeeze" down enough but mine didn't work - not even a little

I am gonna have to hit the hardware store tomorrow and pick up a few to experiment with

Any tips or tricks to getting them "right" )I noticed the pic looks like there is some of the tubing inside the fitting, mine was just flush with the inside.......
