Problem with using a sump with the same length as your DT is that if something ever goes wrong with the sump; the only way to get it out is to bust it into pieces with a hammer. Then, you can never get another one back in there. You're better off to go with a smaller sump

why? all you would have to do is slide it out the side

ive solved the problem! i will slightly increase the dimensions of the stand so the sump can fit in

True, but only if you're going to have an open stand. If you're going to enclose the sides, there is no way you're going to slide it out the side. As for increasing the size of the stand, having extra board around the bottom of your DT is just a place for saltwater to accumulate every time your arm is the tank. It will run down and under your tank, and eventually rot out the wood (it'll take it awhile, but it will). Again, just my $.02 worth.

Why don't you sell that 55 and by a 30 Long or 20 gallon and use some of that extra money for other things! such as all those door hindges and knobs or handles

because i dont really feel like selling it. too much work. also, the sides would have doors anyway. plus, with this tank i have a lot of room for extra water in case the power goes out

if your sump is 1/4 inch wider and longer, you will need to make the stands INNER dimensions that much larger. You will basically have a 1-3 inch lip around the base of your display tank if you go with being able to pull the sump out the side. I think it would look fine, its personal opinion though.

You should get a few 2x4's and make a carbon copy of the dimensionsof the tank,, then maybe work with that! Also, it would be cool if you could add sliding rails under the refuigium on each side so it would slide in and out half the way on either side. But then you would have to make the stand a tad taller for those sliders, but would be cool!

Could use drawer sliders they sell at the HD. Also, if you put a 2x4 which really is 1.5 inches on the OUTSIDE of the sump, your outter dimensions are going to be larger than you are expecting I think. If your sump is 1/8 larger on all sides, you need to add the 1/8 inch plus the 1.5 for the outside dim. of the stand on all sides right?

here are the dimensions of the stand:
32" high
48.5" long
19.5" deep
here are the dimensions of the sump:
20 7/8" high
48 3/8" long
12 3/4" deep

Hmmm I dont see how you can put a sump that is the same size as ur DT, if you are going do it the way that spanko did. I built one just his. But then again im not in you head. If you could draw up a blue print that would clear things up. I hope it works out!

the sump isnt the same size as the DT, its considerably less deep. i already calculated everything, and according to my calculations, everything SHOULD work out

Height can be adjusted in the stand. I think what bounty is thinking about is the width and length of the stand. You need to ensure you have enough inside dimension to accomodate the sump tank, which will make the stand wider and longer than the display tank when you put the top of the stand on.
