DIY Stand??

I am looking at purchasing a 120G tank with the dimensions of 48"x24"x25" (LxWxH). It does not come with a stand. I am thinking about building my own stand, but what would I have to do to make sure it will hold up to the weight of the tank? I would like to build a stand with double doors with no braces in the middle so that it is just one large open space.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!!

From what I understand you should be able to do it that way. I was told by my LFS that all the weight is on the corners. I have a 125 without a center support in the front. The tank has been running for almost 1 1/2 years without any problems.

You would have to compensate the structure for that, but it can be done.
Another way would be to offset the front supports off of the middle to quarters or thirds. At least that way you don't really worry about frontal collapse. What you could do is support where the door hinges would be fastened to.
As long as it is structurally sound AND LEVEL, it should ok.

Here are a few photos of my 120 gal. 24x48 DIY. I'll try to send a few photos of the inside. IT has a solid back because it is a room divider, but the back was originally planned to be open. The front is basically open, but I decided to insert a support that is removable. I've been assured it will hold without, but it just helps me sleep at night.

2x4's are actually overkill for the build for this size tank.....On the other site there is a good technical thread on stand builds.....There isn't any need actually for the middle support as shown on the stand with the pic....2x4 will easily carry the load......
