with the over flow boxes it will continue siphon and drain water until the siphon is broken...i wish i could give you a link to the overflow boxes it would give you a better idea how it works
i think i have the idea its going to keep pushing water until it goes above the water line. do you think the pvc overflow wold work instead of buying one?
siphon is broken when the u-tube sucks air sometimes there is an airline tube that will break siphon for you...but no i havent seen the DIY overflow box
i hve 2 - 10g tank could i connect them some how to make my sump bigger ? the way my stand is setup i cant put a 20g in it without cuting the stand but i can just squeeze the 10s in i just tryed it .
yeah...i think DIY projects are great you learn so much more and sometimes you spend a little extra money but in most cases you still spend less than if you were buying one premade....but yeah i think it would work
you can get both 10s in it?? you can connect them but aside from getting holes drilled into them and connecting with bulk heads and pvc i dont really know how to connect them....http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...p&search_type=
if you watch the first video the guy explain every step to making the sump as he goes along even has one about drilling the tank but in my opinion if you can get at least 10% extra water in the sump you are doing good so for a 45g a sump that can hold an extra 4.5-5 gallons of water you are doin good

its the very last thread on this page check it out and let me know what you think....
yeah lots of people have been doing those lately and they seem to work better than the hang on overflow boxes but those would work great and pretty much the same concept
