oh ok...there is nothing wrong with extra filtration but the only thing i have to say to having such polished and filtered water is that sometimes it strips TOO much out of the water and in my opinion some tanks do better if the water is a little less clean...not saying you shouldnt do water changes and keep the tank clean or keep the water clean but a little dirt wont hurt

never used a canister filter before but does it have a pump or something in it??? but if your tank can hold the water and keep up with the flow rate...meaning if your return pump can keep up with the canister and the flow for your tank...i dont see a problem with it

im going to do what you did on the 10gal but without the fuge, with the canister (marineland c 220) 220gph do you think i should go with a mag 4 or 5 pump for my return since my canister will be sucking out of it to? or do you think i should just run the canister out of the tank?

using a 5 gallon tank for the sump in my opinion is 2 small...by the time you put the skimmer and the baffles you have to leave enough room to compensate the drainage during a power outage so essentially in a 5g sump you may have 2 or 3 gallons of water at the most....if you have a 45g you should be able to get a 10 under

this is the sump i had under my 45 while it worked well it only held about 4 gallons of extra water and that was filling it up past the suggestion level but would still hold extra water in case of a power outage
I was under the foolish impression apparently that one had to create their own sump, that they were not a commercial product. Did you buy the sump @ your LFS ? How much was it?
