DIY Wavebox

tutorial. Google those three words and that will give you what you need to build one. To make a wavebox, you must use a DC powerhead, not AC. Most all Tunze powerheads, except the nano I believe, are DC powered(controllable). I bought a Tunze 6100 of the other large board for $150. Put about $20 in parts from Radio Shack for the controller, and another $30 for my actual wavebox(I used black acrylic, not clear), so for about $200 I've got the same thing Tunze sells for $550.

A better pic of the controller I made than in the video. All the controller does is turn the powerhead of and on frequently. There is a variable resistor on the controller to adjust the timing of the on/off cycle.

Been running now for almost a week. I've had the controller made for a while though, just took me a minute to get around to the box. Without the box, I was getting a 1 in wave, with the box, it's almost 2.75 inches from top to bottom.
