Sure
This is my observation with Chromis:
1 - will hide a lot or attempt to shoal with other species (usually unappreciated)
2 - Both will be shy and one will pick on the other non-stop.
3 - Not as shy, one will pick on the other two but since the attention is divided they seem to do fine.
4 - One will be shy. Same as #3 except the two submissive fish will chase the shy one mercilessly once they attain some size.
5 or more - same as #4 except the attention is divided so they all seem to do well. There is a distinctive heirarchy 1 dominant, 2 submissive to #1 and dominant to the rest.
My suggestion is either 3 or more than 4.
