Do copepods swim?

Do they? Whenever Ive seen them theyve been on the glass or rocks but tonight when I was doing an expections I saw a ton of what I thought were copepods swimming around the area that the moonlight illuminates. They might be cleaner shrimp babies but I dunno what they look like or how they behave so I dunno. Anyone know?

those are mysid shrimp. they only swim almost in a goofy up and down circular pattern staying in one little area close to the liverock where they can quickly dart into when startled. these if you see em in your tank in time you will see them swimming in your sump, overflow box as well as darting around near caves or holes in the liverock at night.

When I saw them they were at the top of the water and I would believe it if they hatched from my cleaner shrimp eggs because of theyre size. Those are mysid shrimp? Ill look for them tonight too but Ive never seen them before, maybe something to do with the moon being full?

no at the top of the water sounds more like hatched cleaner shrimp. If they are cleaner shrimp hatchlings they wont last long, if they are mysid you will see them all the time.

Wow, I've never seen a tank that naturally has a supply of Mysis Shrimp, eggs hatching at that. Mysis don't last long in my tank, everything including my corals and anemones gobble them up. Thats pretty unusual to have any shrimp eggs hatching in your tank. I would of guessed some kind of pods.

Their name says it all:
Kope = Greek for "oar" Podos = Greek for "foot" Hence Copepod = oar-footed, referring to the pair of swimming legs on the same somite that are moved together, like the oars of a sculling shell.
kind of like scuba divers use fins to swin.
