I may have to relocate in 2 mos. 1400 miles to be exact I have 3 tanks and I hate to have to part with all of my fin friends but 22 hours drive time doubt I could rig a filtration system on a battery backup heater/chiller etc has anyone ever moved and taken them a far distance???

I recently moved from AR to TX and decided that it would be best to keep the equipment and not take the chance on the livestock.
If you have a good LFS close you could talk to them about the best way to transport them and see if it would be a good option or not,, I didnt want to take the chance though..
good luck

when you get a fish shipped to 9 out of 10 times the air in the bag will be O2 so it will last longer than if you just put them in the bag and seal it..
ask the local LFS's if they have a way of adding pure o2 and see what they say..
good luck

If they can ship the fish to us there has to be a way. a few ideas (not sure if will work but might enable you to come up with something)
they sell heaters that pop and they heat (they come with your order from swf.com) i think they are sold in hunting deptarments. put fish in a bag, in a box, pagage them, keep them in the dark. ask lfs how they get their fish sent to them. Good luck

A friend of mine drove with all his fish and an arrow crab from Maryland to Phoenix. He dried all the sand in the oven, and used it in Phoenix. All the fish survived just fine. This guy wouldn't part with a fish for anything. I've been thruogh enough moves, and they were stressful enough. I wouldn't try it myself.

You may need to search a little for a LFS that will bag and ship for you. Luckily there is one a couple of hrs from where I live that ships on a regular basis. It's not cheap, but they add O2 to the bags, place in stirofoam cooler, and add a heat source. I'm sure if you call around you will find one that will be willing to do this. I've even heard of some that will hold the fish until you are ready for them. Good luck with your search, and your move.
You could also check out the local bait shops for containers to keep your fish in while you move. I fish on a regular basis and there are several inexpensive live bait holders that would do the job for you. You can buy a transformer that will plug into a cig lighter adapter and convert your car power to 110. Then you can plug in air pump, and heater/chiller. Any computer store or office supply store will have these adapters.
