Do I need a bio-wheel?

I turned my qt into an actual display tank. I added a small amount of lr and 20 lbs of ls in a 15 gallon tank. I do not have a skimmer for this tank but do I really need the bio-wheel? I was using it for my qt but now realize that I don't think I need it. What function is it providing now that I have added ls and lr to the tank other then keeping the water clear?

ok so what is your source of filtration? other than a handful of rock?
