Do I need a protein Skimmer?

I have a 55gallon tank with around 70lbs of LR, and 80 lbs of live sand. I recently purchsed a 75 gallon wet/dry filter with over flow box to my sump.
Here it is:

So do I still need a skimmer in the long run if I wish to setup a reef?
Thanks,

yes a reef benifits greatly from having a protein skimmer attached with it. the gunk it pulls out helps keep water quality up that the corals have to have to thrive.

you can run a tank without a skimmer but you really need to be cautious with feeding and water changes. Personally I would not be without one, once you see what a quality skimmer removes from the water you will be a believer in them, just do not skimp on this area, get the best skimmer you can afford the first time around

deffinately better IMO I dont care for the seaclones.
I wont recomend one though cause mine was several years old and they dont make them anymore so the brands available now I have not used.

Seaclones aren't worth the money you pay for them, especially given that some stores sell them for as much as it would cost to buy a really good skimmer (around $200). Save yourself money and headache in the long run and get a highly recommended skimmer brand instead of this *****-quality product.
And yes, I have a seaclone skimmer. Anyone want to lend me money to upgrade? Anyone?

There are sooooo many skimmers out there and everyone reccomends a different one lol
I think I'll do quite a bit of research on them! I don't have any fish or coral just inverts for the time being so I have time to research before i jump in!
Thanks everyone!

The Coarlife Super Skimmer is a great option for the money. My first was a Seaclone and the Coralife is a huge improvement.
