Do I need a sump?

Do i need a sump for my 45gl tank???? and whats it for anyway?!

a sump is not necessary. most people hv it to hide away their equipments and to increase water volume. a sump can also be used as a fuge to grow macroalgae and pods.

I use my sump so I can grow pods for my Dragonet. But nycbob is right.

with all due respect from you question i would say you are new to the hobby and as such i would suggest you buy a good book on saltwater aquariums
