Do I need to wrap the heater?

I remember reading something somewhere once about wrapping our tank heaters so that they horses don't try to hitch to it and burn themselves but I don't remember the details. If so, what do you suggest I wrap it with?

I think this is more of a problem with dwarf horses. But if you wanted to wrap the heater with something, try the plastic needlework "cloth" from the craft department.

I never keep heaters in my tanks, but many use the plastic needle point sheets you can buy at the craft store.

It can get pretty cold in Connecticut and since we have our home heating system set to drop down to 65 degrees during the day when we're at the office, yes, I think I should keep the heater going in the tank.

Use a heater guard. They are available at most fish stores. It's a black plastic grate specifically designed to protect animals from the heater.

I didn't cover mine when I had my horse. But there is concern from Glass heaters and they can burn little seahorse tails.I burned myself one time in the tank with an Aqueon heater and got rid of it.(This was before I got my horse)
I use the Marinelabs stealth heaters and they are great as they keep the temp. constantly the same but do not get hot enough to burn. They are also plastic and shatterproof.
