Do i really need an overflow box?

Is an overflow tank something I should build or buy? I haven't seen them around.

There was an old thread or two I wrote on building those, you might find it in a search...
I'm sitting in the library at present (my comp "puked" big time) so I can't dig it up for you at present...
Maybe in a couple days when I get back "on line" (assuming I can retrieve my old information....)

Hey squidd, how is it that you are running 2 J tubes on your overflow? I tried it out a few times but it always lost siphon when the power went out? Sorry to hi-jack this post....

How large pipe is used in the set up you showed and what is the estimated flow rate?

It's a guess.. 1/3 or a little less than full siphon. The one I showed had a skimmer item 1. Don't do this with your main siphons, leave that part out and put a screen/pre-filter down in the tank (2).

Hey, sorry I haven't been around much..comp still down (but I'm learning how to rebuild it bigger and better, DIY style :thinking: )in the mean time I'm still at the Library, on a time limit...
Anyhoo..there should be an old post on "Sizing U Tubes" for HOB overflows I did some time back...do a "search" for it (in this forum) and it'll explain the "tricks" to proper U tube flow..
