Do live rocks die?

A friend of mine gave me around 200 pounds of live rocks from her tank that she don't want anymore, and she gave a mix of fiji rocks and florida rocks. First of all do live rocks die, and is there anyway I can tell if they are dead or not.

The life on the rock that makes live rock "live" can die, then you basically have expensive base rock.

I HAVE ABOUT 75LBS OF LIVE ROCK AND YES IT CAN DIE THE CORALINE ALGAE "PURPLE, RED, AND GREEN" CAN DIE. I FOUND THAT OUT THE HARD WAY. YOU NEED TO HAVE GOOD LIGHTING EVERYONE TOLD ME A BASIC FLUORESENT LIGHT WOULD WORK IT DIDN'T SO I GOT A 192W PC. ALSO ADD CALCIUM IT SHOULD BE IN THE RANGE OF 400-425
