Do not lose hope :) Tale of the Duster

On March 23rd I purchased a lovely pink Hawaiian feather duster. The next day, it was savaged by a shrimp in my tank which I did not know was not reef safe. I returned the shrimp to my LFS. I had intended to dispose of the Duster when I returned home from the shop.
When I got home I went to retrieve the duster, but it had started gathering sand around its foot, so I decided to leave it in the tank. This duster was for all intents and purposes dead, as far as I was concerned. All that remained of the formerly 3" tube was about 1/2" of the top.
I was told that had it indeed survived, it would take about a week for it to grow a new crown. Well, a week went by, and then another, and another and nothing.
Today, almost a month later, under the moonlight, what did I see? A new little pink crown!!!!
I love that duster, and a pink one is a pretty rare find.
Just hadda share 'cuz I'm all kind of excited about it!

I know how happy you are!
I no longer remove a "dead" coral, or tube worm. I have had both seem to rise from the dead. That's one of the perks of saltwater tanks, things thrive and grow and change, I am just a spectator looking at a tiny little ocean....never a dull moment.

Just remember...sometimes a DEAD coral could have that brown jelly disease, or it could release something into your tank...so it is not always best to leave it in your dt...if you have somewhere else..toss it in that

Wow, I never had anything like that.
what does that look like???
I have corals that seem to just shrink off the rocks thay are on until nothing is there anymore. My galixia coral was shrinking but is growing out again and refilling the rock. I really thought that is how they die...it takes months sometimes. Just smaller and smaller until gone
