Do Not Ship Dhl

I just wanted to chime in and say that a friend sent me dwarf seahorses thru USPS in Nov (she is Mn I am in NY) she was told I would have them next day by noon and paid good money to make sure of that
Needless to say the next day I called at 9am as they instructed to see if my pkg was there so I could pick it up rather them be in a cold truck for a few hours WELLLL they werent there
panic started to set in but I was told iot "could be in by 5 amd to call again" well no big supprise they werent there at 5 either
I started to lose hope I would get them alive.
Again the NEXT DAY I called to see if they were there at 9am, NOPE

So then I was given the "expres mail manager's " ph# and after an hour of searching she called me back and told me she found them STUCK at an airport in Rochester NY about an hour away

She was able to RUSH them here but they did not arrive until 2pm so I RUSHED to the PO as SOON as they called me to let me know they were there, ran home expecting the WORST and I get the box open and found all 12 SURVIVED!!!!!!!!!

So dont give up hoe, it might be ok! Good luck!

im hoping everything is ok....i tracked it again last night after golfing for a bit and found out they the box left ohio at 5pm so hopefully it spent the night in warmer temperatures than ohio...if so then the chances have increased by at least 3 fold....

That's why I don't use USPS anymore. The tracking numbers are useless and I've had the most delayed shipments with them.

Come to find out the PO in MN can ONLY fly express packages into our Rochester Airport b/c of some deal they made

That was a BIG part of the problem other than that I have had horses shipped USPS from Cali without any problems and arrival was right on the nose

Ya DHL is garbage. I just got a overnight through them and they didn't even have the courtesy to ring my doorbell so the package sat in the heat 2 more hours. Plus the drivers don't get paid well and don't get drug tested so half of them drive around high all day. I have even heard of one locally flipping his box truck. They are a distant 2nd behind UPS and FEDEX

I agree. I have had only bad luck with DHL. I tryed them a few time couple years ago and never went good any time. Best IMO is Fedex, but very high cost. Next worst to DHL is UPS. Believe it or not, I have had the best with USPS Express. At least this year. Maybe things have gotten better with the postal service or I have just been lucky. So far no losses with USPS Express. Many delays with UPS.

UPS overnight it went to Louisville,KY before it came back down to Zephyrhills, FL. Figure that one out.

BTW. The coral is still doing fine peef.

USPS 2-3 day is the way to go FL to FL

Unfortunet that Dhl has this but they do not have to ringbell if going to a resident address. They have labels called In Person Signature Required (blue label)meaning that driver is suppose to get a signature but it costs for this service ( I forget how much. I haven't used them in awhile). The shipper is to get these.

No matter who you use to ship your package delays happen for every airline or cargo operator. I am a pilot and no matter if it is overnight shipping or not delays can happen for all air operators. I have seen DHL flights make it into airports when UPS can't and the other way around as well. There is a lot that goes into the ability for a flight to make it into and airport and one minute the weather is just at minimums and the next minute no flights can make it into the airport. It is just the luck of the draw with the scheduled block time. Sometimes there is a lot of bad luck but most of the time it isn't the carriers fault.

I can chime in with some airline experience. I work for the airlines for 10 years. We used to carry live fish, live rock, you name it we carried it. We experienced delays too. Just because it is a Cargo company does not mean they don't have delays. It is the same as you flying. If you are going from NY to FL you have to go thru Atlanta or Charlotte. I know it does not seem logical for something to go from FL to OH to FL but that is how their company works. DHL used to be in Cincinnati but when the bought Airborne Express they move to Wilmington. Think about it. They had 2 feet of snow in some parts of OH and now with the rain and warmer temps it creates fog. Planes and fog usually don't go to well together. Yes it sucks and I do agree that DHL is prob the worst company to ship with but you live and learn. DHL is huge in Europe (they are a Germany owned company) so obviously they can't be too awful bad. I have had stuff sent UPS next day from NYC to Upstate NY and they were DOA. If it is packed well hopefully it will do just fine.
