yes, they will eat lettuce, and no you dont want to boil it ,, just scrub it in water and make sure you get everything off of it before putting it in the tank. Also seaweed sheets for sushi works great.
Correct, butter lettuce is about as nutritious as a ricecake. Romaine is a step in the right direction, though agreed with above, try keeping the seaweed coming as often as possible.
Joe is right about the romaine (as usual), IMO, turnip greens are better. Freeze the leaves on a cookie sheet and then keep in the freezer in a plastic bag. This softens them just like boiling, but is easier. This stuff may not be as good as packaged seaweed or algae; but lasts a lot longer as a grazing food. I raised a lot of herbivores on romaine; before the prepared foods came along.

Is this tang eating at all? If not, this is a whole new problem that won't be solved by veggies. Please let us know ASAP and, if he isn't eating, include as much info as possible. I'd re-post this with a thread title that sounds desperate.

3 days isn't long at all. How big a tank? Tankmates? Anyone harassing him? Tank params? Tangs are herbivores, but (IME) they will usually eat meaty foods 1st. Try frozen mysis, Frozen Formula I & II, spirulina loaded frozen brine shrimp is great. Frozen foods are much better than dried, IMO. He may do nothing but pick at LR for a while. There are 2 species sold as powder browns: Acanthurus nigracans & A. japonicus. You can Google Image the scientific name to be sure which you have. A. nigracans is an extremely difficult fish that often refuses to eat. No reason to panic yet, fish can go a long time without eating, the more info you can give us, the more help we can be.

My mom used to send away for those things. I even had the little tank.
my tank is a 150g haha i said sea monkeys but any ways its been in my tank for 3 days not eatin but who knows how long its went without eatin before i got him you no
Stick with Nori. Any lettuce will have glucose that will need to be broken down by heat for the tangs and their long digestive track. Also easier to absorb additives such as garlic and selcon to keep fish healthier or help a sick buddy recover

do powder brown tangs eat lettuce? if this is true do you have to boil it like you do broccoli
why feed a fish human food ? do you know for sure they can process human food... digest it properly ? why not just give the tang algae sheets available at most salt water stores as well as online ?
