To this point, I just go with my water changes. I've never had a problem thus far. But I do have some supplements if needed.

if u are using distilled water, which u can buy at walmart for .69 cents, for ur water changes u do not need any of that stuff for ur water. the distilled water comes wit all that stuff. but u do need calcium if u want ur live rock to have a purplish tint to it, otherwise there jus goin to stay brown/gray with algae.

First of all, if you can afford a RO machine, by all means buy one.
The only chemicals I dose are Purpleup calcium supplement and Kent Reef Builder (alkalinity buff). I used to dose Kalkwasser (the best calcium/alk buffer imo), but I got tired of premixing the stuff and letting it sit overnight.
With the Purpleup and alk buffer you can mix them with RO water and add them immediately.

RO/DI water. Homemade 2 part additive - calcium chloride dissolved in water (Prestone Driveway heat) and baked baking soda dissolved in water.

I've heard bad things about Purpleup crashing peoples' tanks.
Don't dose calcium or iodine if you don't test for them! :)

Dunno how Purpleup would crash a tank. All it contains is calcium. They may have been adding it without adding any alkalinity buffer.
